I wanted to be part of something in Seoul where I could meet people who are like-minded as me. Creative people. People from the Caribbean. People from where I was from. For a long time, I felt completely alone and was constantly adapting to the crowds I was with that were pretty different from the crowds I would hang out with back in Dominica and Canada.
Determined! I networked and got in touch with some other folks who felt the same as me. I got in touch with a girl named Brandi who also had this idea which mirrored one that I had about hosting an artist showcase to get everyone in our community in Seoul together. We call it Good Vibes Only.
We rallied a roster of artistic and outgoing people to perform. I myself would be the host of the event as well as one of the performers. At the same time, I brought some of my camera gear and filmed the night and later edited a 20-minute video that summed up the entire night. I must say that I'm quite the multi-tasker.
GVO will be an event that is held seasonally and will provide a platform for artists to express themselves and for people to come to support the local talent. One of the best things that came out of the event was that I met so many other people who were just like me, who were from where I was from, who liked what I liked and appreciated the sort of vibes that I did. Needless to say, it was an amazing time and I am looking forward to the next one.
