Product Description Optimization Guide For SEO, GEO & AEO

The Core Principle

Write for humans first, machines second — but structure it so both can read it perfectly.

1. Lead with Literal, Specific Language

❌ "Walk on Clouds" ✅ "Lightweight women's cushioned running shoe with arch support"

AI agents can't recommend what they can't classify. Your title and first sentence should state exactly what the product is.

2. Answer Real Questions in the Description

Think about how people actually ask AI tools:

"I have flat feet and need a marathon shoe under $150"

Your description should contain the answer to that question, naturally written:

"Designed for flat-footed runners, this shoe offers motion-control support, a wide toe box, and a responsive midsole — priced under $150."

3. Fill Every Structured Field

AI prioritizes clean, structured data over scraped web copy.

Field Example
Title Women's Waterproof Trail Running Shoe
Category Women's > Running > Trail
Material Recycled mesh upper, rubber outsole
Variants Size, Color (grouped — not separate products)
Price Current, accurate
Availability Live inventory

4. Use the "5 W's" Framework

Every product description should cover:

  • What is it, specifically?
  • Who is it for?
  • Why does it solve their problem?
  • Where/When is it used?
  • How does it differ from alternatives?

5. Layer Your Keywords Naturally

Layer Purpose Example
Primary Core SEO "trail running shoe"
Attribute GEO/AEO matching "waterproof", "wide fit", "under $150"
Use-case Conversational AI queries "for marathon training", "for flat feet"
Brand Trust signals Reviews, certifications, guarantees

6. Add Trust Signals

AI synthesizes reputation signals. Include:

  • Social proof ("4.8★ from 2,400 runners")
  • Guarantees ("30-day returns")
  • Authority signals ("used by Boston Marathon finishers")

Quick Checklist

  • [ ] Literal, descriptive title — no marketing fluff
  • [ ] First sentence classifies the product clearly
  • [ ] Description answers a real buyer question
  • [ ] All variant data grouped under one parent product
  • [ ] Specific category/taxonomy assigned
  • [ ] Trust signals included
  • [ ] No critical info buried in JavaScript or images

The short version: Be specific, be structured, be findable. If an AI agent can read it, understand it, and vouch for it — you win.
